Fish and chips – a Latin classic?
Did you know that fish and chips has its origins on the Iberian peninsula? In 1492, the catholic kings expelled the Sephardic Jews who refused to convert to Christianity from Spain. They fled to Portugal and remained there until the early 17th century when they were expelled and fled to Britain. One of their traditions was to fry fish in flour or rebozado, a flour-based batter, and to serve it accompanied by fried potatoes.
