Taking the telenovela back....
Buena Vista International is adapting its hit show for a Latin American audience by producing Spanish versions for Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador, and a Portuguese version for Brazil. These will follow the hugely successful telenovela TV serial format.
Each version will be adapted to reflect the culture of its audience, for example Mike Delfino, the plumber character, will have to change profession as due to social divisions manual workers would not live in the same kind of neighbourhood as the housewives. The Hispanic couple played in the original US version by the Texans Eva Longoria and Ricardo Antonio Chavira will reflect permanent immigrants in each community e.g. in the Colombian version they will be from Ecuador.
