The 3rd Tyne Carnival at ¡VAMOS! Festival 2013!
11.30am – 12.30pm: Procession along Northumberland Street and then finishing on High Bridge.
12pm-6pm: ¡VAMOS! Highbridge Take-over! (featuring live music from Cumbé, Burundanga and Brassy B, food, crafts and children’s activities).
All events events are free – if you would like to take part then there will free Tyne Carnival performance workshops on Saturday 8th and Saturday 22nd June. To be held at The Stand, High Bridge.
The Tyne Carnival returns for the third time, bigger and louder than ever before, and links with the Highbridge Festival for the first time!
Our theme this year is KINGS and QUEENS and we invite everyone to celebrate their vision of what it means to be one! Whether carnival style, regal or comedy inspired this is your chance to transform yourself and your surroundings. The winner of the best dressed King and Queen will be announced on the stage at Highbridge later in the day.
The Tyne Carnival parade itself will be made up of public participants (having attended the free Tyne Carnival workshops, more info on the ¡VAMOS! Festival website from next week) who will get the opportunity to perform alongside professional dancers, musicians and artists. There will be energetic live music (coordinated by Hannabiell Sanders and Yilis del Carmen Suriel), stunning costumes (created via workshops with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts) and dynamic choreography (developed by Garner Harris of The Creative Seed).
The troupes confirmed so far include: Talentos of London (London based Latin dancers), Worldbeaters, iota Arts, Burundanga, DrumDin (celebrating their 20th anniversary!), Lawnmowers Theatre, Creative Seed, ZUMBA® troupes from the UK Ignition event and many, many more…
The parade will travel with a colourful procession through the heart of Newcastle on Northumberland Street, then leading down to and ending on Highbridge street itself. Following the procession there will be the grand announcement of the winner of the best dressed KING and QUEEN plus a full day of specially programmed latino music including: Burundanga live, Hannabiell & Midnight Blue plus Djs and competitions. Alongside the music will be an array of wonderful ¡VAMOS! style food and craft stalls!
