Venezuelan Jaime Gili is an artist based in London since 1996. Since 2002 his work has been contextualised as continuing a tradition of Latin American abstract art. Gili received his MA in painting from the Royal College of Art in 1998, and his PhD at the University of Barcelona in 2001 and has shown his work internationally.
As part of the celebration of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and as part of ¡VAMOS! 2012, Jaime Gili devised the installation “Posters para posters / Posters for posts” in response to the magnificent architecture of Tynemouth Station, newly-restored and celebrating its 130th anniversary. The artwork was free to view throughout the festival. The commission also was featured in Gili’s book Repetition.
Delivered with curator Pablo León de la Barra and supported by Arts Council England and North Tyneside Council.
