'A great chapter of my life'
Dr Marleny Jimenez

I came to the UK in 1992 to work as a Foreign Language Assistant (FLA) in
Newcastle, with the support of the British Council and the Central Bureau in London.
I then became a student at the University of Newcastle where I undetook courses at Masters Degree and Ph D level. I graduated in 2001 and have been working with the School of Modern Languages, University of Newcastle for 10 years now.
My stay in England, - particularly in Newcastle, has been altogether an exciting trip and a very nice chapter in my life. It has allowed me for travelling and visiting many countries, mixing with and meeting new people from a wide range of credos, colours and nationalities. Because of its diverse ethnicity, the region has flourished fast in aspects of culture, music and folklore. It has embraced so many races and with them their customs, that it certainly deserves being called a multicultural region.
On the other hand, being a latin, music is in my blood. I love listening to romantic music, tangos, baladas. I love dancing every type of music and I even dare dancing salsa and writing poems at some point.
The ¡VAMOS! Festival will give us moments and memories that we never dreamt of living so far away from home. I am sure you all agree with me in congratulating the organisers, my latin heart goes with you, CHEERS!
